Fundamentals of Art

FUNDAMENTS OF ART COURSE

Credit Earned Upon Completion: .50

Dates: June 17 - June 28 from 8:00am-10:30am

Description: This course provides a general overview of the visual arts with an emphasis on design, historical significance and artistic intent. Students work with two and three-dimensional mediums creating realistic and abstract works including: pencil, pastel, marker, and paint. The hands on work combines with text, multimedia presentations, and class discussions to help students gain an understanding of the societal importance of art.

Course Credits

Students who elect to take this course during the summer will receive a full-week study hall during one semester of freshmen year. If students elect to take this course and then enroll in Choir or Band, they will receive the .5 credits, but will not have the semester-long study hall.

Description: Milestone C’s IDEA program brings freshmen students face to face with a “real world design experience”. Using technology-centered, hands-on, inquiry-based learning, and problem-solving students are tasked with building an electric car company from the ground up.

What should Students Expect?

An academic and time intensive high school prep course; homework including discussion and work outside of class; formal collaboration and presentation; a technology-focused program including all stages: physical build, design and testing.

Description: Our Class of 2028 Freshman Seminar class provides a well-rounded orientation for incoming students to ease the transition to high school both academically and socially! This three-day onboarding program will feature academic courses, College & School Counselor meetings, student account set up and a group service project.

Course Notes & Considerations: Daily lunch will be provided, however our catering program will not yet be operating at full capacity. If you have dietary restrictions, we recommend bringing a lunch from home.

Description: This course examines the history of Roman Catholic social teaching with an emphasis on Church Documents promulgated by Popes and Bishops. With an emphasis on the principles of Catholic social teaching using reflection, judgment, and action, topics include justice and society, the right to life, prejudice, racism, peace, work, and the environment.

Description: This course is an intensive study of the constitutional framework, institutions, and political processes of the United States government. Students focus on the duties, rights, and responsibilities of citizenship and develop a critical understanding of the political, economic, and social challenges in governing a pluralistic society. Case studies of historical and current issues are utilized to provide students an analytical perspective on the evolution of the United States government.

Description: Two and three-dimensional geometric figures are explored through the use of definitions, postulates and theorems. Inductive and deductive reasoning are developed in the formulation of proofs and through group activities. This course allows for students to earn credit prior to their sophomore year, allowing them to take Calculus as Seniors.

Description: Recognizing the complexity of living in our current age, this semester course seeks to provide students with the tools to live out a moral life. The curriculum focuses on applying the Church’s moral teachings to contemporary life, with a focus on the topics of decision-making, conscience, honesty, laws, virtues, vices, etc. Students will learn how to live out God’s call and bring their unique perspective into the world to make it a better place.

Description: In this course, students learn of God’s revelation through an examination of the writings of the New Testament, and by studying the person, role, nature and message of Jesus Christ. Emphasis on the development of Christology from the first century to the modern age, and an exploration of the Acts of the Apostles and the Epistles illustrate the role of the early Christian community in the formation of the Church. Students learn to integrate Scripture into prayer life and moral decision-making.

Description: This course is for the advanced student who would like to strengthen and further develop his or her language skills. Oral, written, and grammar study are conducted in Spanish. This intermediate-high level course focuses on meaningful contexts that develop and consolidate a student’s speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural competencies. Students also view, research, and discuss the importance of cultural figures through short Hispanic films, Spanish texts, and current publications. This course is conducted almost entirely in Spanish.

The Senior College Bootcamp is designed to prepare our seniors with the essential skills, knowledge, and resources they need to thrive during the college appplication season. Students will learn to navigate the admissions process, receive valuable essay feedback, work on the Common App, and other necessary tasks associated with the process.

College Admissions Reps will also attend and speak with students to assist in the process.

Tyler Matakevich Football Clinic (Free)

Join St. Joes for a FREE football clinic for boys and girls in grades 5-8!

Date: Saturday, June 29, 9am-12pm

Registration will open on April 22

The clinic features St. Joes alum, Tyler Matakevich, ’11, alongside his Buffalo Bills teammates, and SJ alumni players. Students will move through a rigorous warm up before breaking into groups to rotate through various skills instruction, focusing on football-specific agility and coordination drills.
